The Red fox (Vulpes Vulpes) is the only fox in central Europe. His body dimensions are subject to fluctuations in geographical and seasonal variations.
The body weight is male in the range 5.5 to 7.5 kg, for females at 5 to 6.5 kg. The body length (without tail) is for males 65 to 75 cm, for females 62 to 68 cm, the tail length according to 35 to 45 cm or 30 to 42 cm (average values for European foxes). Outside the breeding season, most red foxes favour living in the open, in densely vegetated areas. The Red fox becomes sexually mature at 10 months. After a gestation period of slightly more than 50 days, the red fox averages four to six young.
For a few years we have been visiting the foxes in an area in the Netherlands. Many photos of the foxes were taken during our visits. We present a selection of these photos in this project.
